I’m excited to tell you about my week on the PCT with my daughter and future son-in-law. That’s right, in case you didn’t know, Coreen and Nigel are engaged. Yeah! Pam and I are excited and happy for both of them.
But for now, let me get back to the wilderness. I’ll start by telling you that I really appreciated their offer to join them. Coreen and Nigel's parents must have done a few things right. I’ll remember this trip for a lifetime.
As you can imagine, we hiked, and hiked, and hiked. The days were full of many ups and downs (pun intended). My level of awe for their PCT commitment increased ten-fold. I knew it was mentally tough but didn’t appreciate the physical demand until I experienced it for myself. The first day EVERY muscle on my body you can think of ached. I teased them that the only thing on my body that didn’t ache were my ears.
But we did so much more than just hike; we talked, we swam (kinda, the mountain lakes are very cold, you could call it more like a dip – and we dipped in 5 of them), we played cards (poker and rummy), we told stories, we shared experiences, thoughts and feelings, and talked about our past and futures. What a special gift it was to spend this time with my daughter and future son-in-law.
I hope you enjoy the pics.
